Sidney Gicheru, MD

Sidney Gicheru, MD, is a Refractive Surgeon from Dallas, Texas, and is Medical Director of LaserCare Eye Center. He has been active in the Texas Ophthalmological Association, including serving as President in 2015, and has been active in the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) as well, currently serving as AAO Associate Secretary of State Affairs. He previously served on the AAO Communications Secretariat as Chair of the Communications Advisory committee. He has served full terms on the AAO OPHTHPAC committee and the US FDA’s Dermatologic and Ophthalmic Drugs Advisory committee. He has been awarded several Secretariat Awards for his work in Advocacy.

Dr. Gicheru has a passion for Leadership Development. He is a 2012 graduate of the AAO Leadership Development Program (LDP). He served as faculty for the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology LDP from 2012-2017. He co-founded and served as Program Director of the African Ophthalmology Council (AOC) Leadership Development Program from 2015 to 2020. AOC is the supranational organization that represents Ophthalmologists in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Dr. Gicheru lives in Dallas with his wife, Irene, and 2 children.
